Day #28 Journal Prompt

Details: Paint a colorful bird sitting inside OR above a bird feeder.

Message: Did you know your feelings about color are often deeply personal and rooted in your own experience or culture? For example, while the color white is used in many Western countries to represent purity and innocence, it is seen as a symbol of mourning in many Eastern countries. While perceptions of color are somewhat subjective, there are some color effects that have universal meaning.

Colors in the red area of the color spectrum are known as warm colors and include red, orange, and yellow. These warm colors evoke emotions ranging from feelings of warmth and comfort to feelings of anger and hostility. Colors on the blue side of the spectrum are known as cool colors and include blue, purple, and green. These colors are often described as calm, but can also call to mind feelings of sadness or indifference.

Yesterday we took a trip to the beach, imagining ourselves experiencing a golden sunset. How did it make you feel? What did you hear and smell? As you experienced yesterday and just learned today, color can elicit many powerful feelings and emotions. It’s so strong that many businesses use color psychology to influence consumer choices. Well, as artists we can do this too! The colors we choose can deeply move our viewers to laugh, cry, feel peace, or a strong sense of motivation! Now ask yourself, how do YOU want to impact viewers with YOUR art?

Paint Colors: White, Black, Raw Sienna, Aqua Green, Orange, Cadmium Red, Cadmium Yellow, Phthalocyanine Blue, Violet.

Other Supplies: Painters tape, paint palette, small flat brush, medium flat brush, liner brush or small round brush.

Instructions: After you complete this creative prompt, use the left side to write down the questions shown below this tutorial. I encourage you to write inside your art journal using your favorite pens, pencils, or markers. Once you’ve completed both sections, post/send just your drawing/painting for a chance to win. NOTE: If you’re left handed, switch the side you plan to paint and write on.

Daily Prayer: Dear Father, we thank you for color! We thank you for all the beautiful sights we can experience in mother nature AND through artwork. Help us Father to use color to our advantage! Guide us in how we mix and apply colors to our animal paintings. Show us how we can influence people for good with our artwork. We praise you Father, Amen.
