Day #7 Journal Prompt

Details: Paint an abstract peacock.

Message: The giant tail feathers of male peacocks, called coverts, spread out in a distinctive train of over 60 percent of the peacock’s body length. Astonishingly these feathers are made up of microscopic, crystal-like structures that reflect different wavelengths of light creating the bright, fluorescent colors. Giving these feathers vibrant eye shaped markings of blue, red, gold and other colors.

Without a doubt, peacocks are gorgeous creatures. Unlike any other animal, this birds color makes it stand out vibrantly in a large crowd. Like peacocks, I believe we are called to be different. Called to stand out with our brightness, kindness, empathy, and compassion. Called to rise above by being a source of light, not darkness. When others choose pride and bitterness, we choose humility and forgiveness. When others choose to hate, we choose to love unconditionally. Shine bright today in whatever darkness comes your way!

Paint Colors: Any colors you choose! Cadmium Red, Orange, Gold (Arteza), Yellow Ochre, White, Black, Phthalocyanine Blue, Sky Blue, Violet, Cadmium Yellow, Lime Green.

Other Supplies: Small flat brush, medium flat brush, large flat brush, liner brush or rigger brush. All materials and brands are listed HERE.

Instructions: After you complete this creative prompt, use the left side to write down the questions shown below this tutorial. I encourage you to write inside your art journal using your favorite pens, pencils, or markers. Once you’ve completed both sections, post/send just your drawing/painting for a chance to win. NOTE: If you’re left handed, switch the side you plan to paint and write on.

Daily Prayer: Father we lift up all the people and families affected by yesterday’s riot at the capital. I pray that you soften the hearts of those holding so much anger and hate. Strengthen those who stand for peace and love! Let them and all of us be a radiant light in the darkness. Thank you Father, Amen.
