Day #24 Journal Prompt
Details: Paint a desert scene with any animal you want!
Message: Although earth looks like a watery blue marble from space, one-third of Earth’s land surface is partially or totally desert. The world’s largest desert is Antarctica. Can you believe it! An area doesn’t have to be hot to qualify, it just needs to lose more moisture than it gains. There are parts of the Atacama Desert in Chile where no rain has ever been recorded. Scientists believe portions of the region have been in an extreme desert state for 40 million years, longer than any other place on Earth.
Do you feel like you’re stuck in a desert right now? A prolonged sickness can be a desert. Moving or struggling to find a new home can be a desert. Divorce, cancer, debt - those can definitely be harsh, hot deserts we find ourselves in.
I’ve tried to make sense of some of my deserts - addiction, family struggles, health issues related to my past addiction - these are all things that make me ask “Why?” What I do know however, is that each one has brought me to a new level in confidence, patience, my attitude towards pain, and especially my endurance.
I can actually say I don’t think my heart would have changed UNLESS I went through my deserts. For example, I needed to go through an addiction to show me what I was capable of. I needed that pain to force me to learn who I was, to surrender, and to finally let go. Deserts have truly humbled me, strengthened me, pushed me to dig in and act! It sounds crazy, I know, but many of my deserts were some of the best things that ever happened to me!
