Day #22 Journal Prompt
Details: Paint any kind of Bull.
Message: Have you ever heard the idiom, “Grab the bull by the horns.” It’s origin is unclear, possibly from bullfighting times in the 1800’s or from steer wrestling in the American west.
It means to deal bravely and decisively with a difficult, dangerous, or unpleasant situation. It’s said that the only way to control and bring down a steer (young bull) was to grab it by the horns. If a person tried to grab anywhere else, they stood the risk of getting bashed by the horns.
What area/s of your life do you simply have to face head on, horns and all? Maybe it’s a conflict that needs resolving, a task you’ve been putting off, or a career you desperately want to pursue. You know it will take courage, strength, and lots of determination, but you just don’t know if you have it in you. It feels impossible, especially after everything you’ve just been through.
“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.” The scariest thing I ever did was pursue my dream as a full-time artist. I had no proof things would workout. I had my entire family and many friends fighting me, begging me NOT to take such a risk. For it would be much “safer” to use my degree in Nutritional Sciences from Penn State University. Yet, deep in my heart I knew it was the right thing to do. I felt a peace about it because I knew God put that on my heart for a reason. I knew it would be extremely difficult, but I also knew God truly cared about my future!
Fear can be a great thing! It can push us to greater lengths. We learn who we are under enormous stress AND what we need to change. Fear is what lead me to God! The relationship I have with Jesus Christ and share with you today was brought on by my deep rooted fear of failure and rejection. I was afraid my life would be consumed by depression and addiction forever, and that my dream of becoming an artist would never come true. Here I am, addiction free for over five years and being the main provider for my growing family! I cannot take credit for all this though, it was our loving God. I just did my best to trust Him with every small step, one day at a time.
