a beautiful change

This past week Adam, AnnaGrace, and I took a little vacation to my family in Pennsylvania. I knew painting wouldn’t be an option, not with all the driving we planned on doing, so I brought along my Prisma colored pencils and mixed media sketch book.

22-hours later, with lots of breaks in between, I created Mr. Frog! It was a sweet reminder of how much I enjoy layering with colored pencils. The detail, the colors, the long process, it’s a refreshing change.

After being around the corn fields of PA, I’m now onto my next project with maze and bird feathers. Not entirely sure how to color feathers or even the tiny kernels of corn, but that’s the fun part. If you take your time with this medium and layer slowly, things will start to click.

I’m not finished, but with six hours of driving ahead of us yet as we travel back home to Illinois, I’m hoping to have it completed! Wish me luck.
