It’s HOW our pain is growing us, developing our art, and shaping our hearts that really draws people in.

Learning to Be Authentic

In a world consumed by social media, every day we see the more sunny side of our friends, family members, role models, and complete strangers.

But, what about those vulnerable moments? Those real life raw moments of humanness.

As artists, one way we can truly serve our audience is by being real! Yes, being honest with our emotions, circumstances, strengths, and weaknesses, can help our customers.

Artists that embrace their humanness attract more real humans. We become relateable. Less intimidating. Teachable. Authentic. And well, more interesting.

We can still share our pain with a posture of love, grace, and strength without complaining, or blaming, or seeking pity.

We must come with solutions not complaints! We must focus on the good not the bad. No one wants to hear about our sorrows. It’s how our sorrows are growing us, developing our art, and shaping our hearts that really draws people in. And that takes some hard grit to tap into.

The greatest thing I ever did for my own mental health and for my art business was sharing my story, flaws and all. Sharing the wisdom my struggles led me too. And that vulnerability has led to many close connections, real people coming to me for my art, my wisdom, my humanness. NOT my perfection.
