Day #9 Journal Prompt
Details: Draw an abstract wolf using pointillism.
Message: “The only real mistake is the one from which we learn nothing - Henry Ford.” When I battled addiction years ago, I always knew the worst thing I could do was hold on tight to shame and guilt. After every “episode” (I called it) I would make a point of writing in my journal what I learned instead of dwelling on what I did wrong. I desperately didn’t want to waste my pain, but instead use it to propel me forward in recovery.
Treating each “mistake” as a stepping stone instead of a set back will keep you running your race. In my art journey I like to re-attempt paintings and drawings, sometimes three times over. I feel like it really helps me grow faster then when I attempt an entirely different painting. This practice in my art has taught me in life to “re-attempt” challenges even when I’m afraid of messing up again. Although it’s scary, it helps me grow faster! It helps me prove to myself that I CAN, that anything is possible, and that “mistakes” can bring victory!
My Story: If you’d like to learn more about my art and recovery story checkout “The Art & Business of Pet & Wildlife Portraiture.”
Other Supplies: Graphite pencil and/or 05 Micron pen. All materials and brands are listed HERE.
Instructions: After you complete this creative prompt, use the left side to write down the questions shown below this tutorial. I encourage you to write inside your art journal using your favorite pens, pencils, or markers. Once you’ve completed both sections, post/send just your drawing/painting for a chance to win. NOTE: If you’re left handed, switch the side you plan to paint and write on.
Daily Prayer: Father thank you so much for the ability to learn and grow from our mistakes. Thank you for making ANYTHING possible no matter how impossible it feels. I pray Father that from here on out ALL our mistakes turn into stepping stones on our path. Stones that lead us forward in our health or finances or art or mental health, etc. With you Father anything is possible! Only with you can we truly be victorious in this life! We thank you Father, Amen.
