Day #27 Journal Prompt
Details: Paint a pelican in front of a sunset.
Message: Have you ever heard of the "Golden Hour?” It’s when daylight turns into a red, orange and yellow palette - the golden tones - at sunset.
During sunrise and sunset, the first thing that strikes us is the color of the Sun's rays. It all happens due to a phenomenon called "scattering." When the Sun is low on the horizon, small particles and water droplets in the atmosphere force sunlight to change direction. As a result, shorter wavelength colors like blue and violet get scattered out leaving only the longer wavelength colors like yellow, orange, and red available to our eyes.
How do you feel when you watch a sunset? What past memories do you have of watching the sun go down? Tomorrow we’re going to talk about the science behind color and how it affects our brains and bodies, but today I’d like for you to explore this yourself.
As you paint today, image yourself standing close to that pelican witnessing the sun go down. Focus ONLY on the sounds, smells, your breathing, and your nautical environment. Be present, be still, and allow yourself to experience the golden hour from home!
Other Supplies: Arteza Gold, Violet, Cadmium Yellow, White, Black, Raw Sienna, Sky Blue, Phthalocyanine Blue. Cadmium Red. All materials and brands are listed HERE.
Instructions: After you complete this creative prompt, use the left side to write down the questions shown below this tutorial. I encourage you to write inside your art journal using your favorite pens, pencils, or markers. Once you’ve completed both sections, post/send just your drawing/painting for a chance to win. NOTE: If you’re left handed, switch the side you plan to paint and write on.
Daily Prayer: Dear Father, I thank you for sunsets. I also thank you for the opportunity to bring golden sunsets into our homes using art! Help us to really use our imaginations today. As we sit at home take us to the beach! Focus our minds on being still, present, and experiencing the beautiful outdoors. We thank you for our imaginations Father. We love you Lord, Amen.
