Day #14 Journal Prompt
Details: Paint a joyful English Cocker Spaniel. Doesn’t have to be using Christmas lights.
Message: Joy, happiness, what do these words really mean? When I hold my daughter close, kissing her cheek constantly, is that joy or happiness? When I listen and watch the constant bad news online, but feel a strong sense of security, knowing everything will truly be alright, is that joy or happiness or gratitude? Which is it?
What I do know about joy is that it’s easy to connect it with predetermined milestones like getting a certain degree or landing that big promotion or meeting “the one.” Then when we finally reach those goals we discover that joy simply isn’t there.
It’s also safe to say that I know what limits joy. The best “joy blockers” I know are those limiting beliefs, assumptions from past experiences, and definitely that mean inner critic. Oh yes, us creatives know that voice all too well, don’t we!
How would you define joy and happiness? Are they both feelings and/or choices? Is this truly something we find within ourselves or through our creator? Side note, I just LOVE these kinds of questions that cause us to reflect!
Traceable Outline: Click HERE to Download.
Paint Colors: Violet, White, Black, Phthalocyanine Blue, Raw Sienna, Yellow Ochre, Cadmium Yellow, Orange.
Other Supplies: Cup of water, paper towel or cloth, paint palette, mixed media journal, transfer paper for traceable, pen. All materials and brands are listed HERE.
Instructions: After you complete this creative prompt, use the left side to write down the questions shown below this tutorial. I encourage you to write inside your art journal using your favorite pens, pencils, or markers. Once you’ve completed both sections, post/send just your drawing/painting for a chance to win. NOTE: If you’re left handed, switch the side you plan to paint and write on.
Daily Prayer: Dear Father, help us to better define joy and happiness so we can live the best life possible in a tragic place! Renew our minds so we can end the “joy blockers.” All those fears and worries that keep us stuck in sadness, depression, and anxiety. We praise you Father, Amen.
