How to paint an old wood door

I get special requests all the time for paintings on all different mediums.

Here's an old wooden door painted with water soluable oil paint. Its actually quite easy. Once you have your old wooden door, take a sander to the rough edges until its somewhat smooth. Since I was asked to use oil paint, I found an oil based primer for just $30 at Menards. I let that dry for about 30-minutes before sketching and then painting. 

From start to finish it took me about 3 days to complete, not difficult when you have a good reference photo.

Prisma Colored Pencils

Pros & Cons of using Prisma Colored Pencils

One day I was inspired to create food art using colored pencils. My first attempt did not turn out that good, but when I tried Prisma colors for the first time, this happened!

Pros

Rich in pigment, easy to layer, easy to blend, and a wide variety of colors to choose from. Also very convenient - you can take this type of medium on the train, car, plane, anywhere really without making much of a mess.

Cons

Expensive. Very expensive. Almost $3 per pencil. Can smear sometimes. Pencils are waxy and don't last very long, especially for larger pieces.

Take home

I will always stick with Prisma colors, but I wouldn't recommend buying an entire set if your only going to do a small project.
