I definitely needed a little escape to the beach, via paint that is. I thoroughly enjoyed painting this one, although painting bubbles is a lot harder than I thought.
Checkout all the things I learned from painting this piece and for once without a camera filming above my head!
Acrylic artist Tips:
When painting bubbles, it actually helps to NOT paint the background behind the bubble first. I painted the background around each circle and then when in to paint each bubble. This seemed to make the bubbles look more three dimensional.
Great colors to use for painting sand - raw sienna, yellow ochre, white, phthalocyanine blue, and even rouge. Yes that’s right rouge!
Painting waves can be tricky! I find that waves have many layers of blue and white, but your lightest highlights will be at the peak where the waves are folding over one another.
Have a well defined lightsource. The reference photo I used didn’t have the greatest directions for light, so I made it up. I created a very strong lightsource on the lower left, making it easier to define my dark and light values.
Use circular lines to capture light and shape inside each bubble. Add colors from the rainbow to those highlights to give it even more dimension.
